Easter Moments in Multicultural Melbourne

A few moments from Easter Day / April 1 2018: visits to Anglican, Serbian, and Hindu communities.

1:00 pm, Melbourne CBD

The choir of St. Peter’s Eastern Hill (Anglican parish church of the City of Melbourne) just can't stop performing - outdoor rendition of Easter Carol "This Joyful Eastertide" (1894) - sung lustily in the parking lot as the congregation exits after Mass. More on St Peters here.

After Mass the choir sings us out into the city. "This Joyful Eastertide" (ending of carol).

4:30 pm Carrum DownS

At St Steven of Dechani Serbian Orthodox church there's a party going on next door in the Serbian National Centre General Dragoljub Mihailović - feasting and dancing to super-charged high volume accordion music. Serbian Orthodox churches of Melbourne here

5:30 pm Carrum Downs

At Shri Shiva Vishnu Temple, Hindu Society of Victoria - on polished floors,  devotees move about the incense-scented, brightly lit Temple space, giving offerings and making contact with the many deities that line the walls. It's a family scene. Shoes are left outside. Priests prepare Pooja (worship) items and decorate statues with flowers. A South Indian drummer warms up for the Bairavar Abishekam (enacted prayer, manifestation of Shiva).  More Temple information here.
